Environmental Advisor

Use your environmental expertise where it can make a visible difference.

We’re looking for an experienced Environmental Advisor to support nationally significant public safety, mine water treatment, river pollution prevention and land remediation projects across Great Britain.

This is a purposeful, client-side role where your advice will be wanted, trusted and used. You’ll work with project managers, engineers, consultants, contractors, regulators and other specialists to turn environmental evidence, legislation and good practice into practical decisions that protect communities, improve former mining areas and support nature recovery.

About you

You’ll be an environmental practitioner who can give clear, proportionate advice on live multidisciplinary projects. You’ll be confident interpreting technical evidence, influencing project teams and working with regulators and statutory stakeholders to achieve good outcomes for people and the environment.

You’ll bring experience in environmental assessment, planning, consenting or permitting, including areas such as Environmental Impact Assessment and Habitats Regulations Assessment. You’ll be able to review specialist work, identify risks and opportunities, and make practical recommendations that help projects move forward responsibly.

You don’t need mining experience or a particular job title. We welcome transferable experience from consultancy, regulation, local government, infrastructure, utilities, water, environmental management, remediation or similar backgrounds. What matters is your judgement, ownership and ability to apply environmental expertise in real project settings.

About the role

As Environmental Advisor, you’ll join our established Environmental Advisory Services Team, supporting activities funded by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero. Our work tackles the legacy of mining across England, Scotland and Wales, helping to prevent pollution, protect people and improve watercourses, habitats and landscapes.

You’ll be involved from early scoping through to delivery, helping project teams identify environmental risks, constraints and opportunities; shape surveys and assessment work; advise on planning, permitting and regulatory requirements; review consultant and contractor outputs; and check that environmental controls are working effectively on site.

Unlike roles where advice ends with a report, you’ll stay close to projects as they develop and see your recommendations put into practice. You’ll have autonomy, variety and the support of a specialist team, with flexible hybrid working and the chance to make a tangible difference through practical environmental advice.
