Engagement Ranger
Peak District National Park
The role
We are looking for an Engagement Ranger to help people connect with, enjoy and care for the Peak District National Park.
In the role you will be a visible and approachable presence in your area, engaging with visitors and local communities to help them enjoy the National Park responsibly. You will provide advice and information, deliver engaging pop-up events that help people understand and appreciate the Peak District’s special qualities.
You will work with colleagues, volunteers and partner organisations to support nature conservation, promote responsible access and encourage positive behaviour in the countryside. You will also monitor rights of way and access land, identify issues affecting visitors or the landscape and ensure that the National Park remains a special place for everyone.
This role involves working outdoors in all weathers, including at busy visitor locations and during weekends and bank holidays when required. You will need to be comfortable working independently across your area, while contributing to a dispersed ranger team.
You will be required to work 2 in 4 weekends and some bank holidays.
About you
You will be passionate about the countryside and enjoy helping people connect with nature. You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to engage positively with a wide range of people, including when dealing with challenging situations.
You will have experience of delivering public engagement, educational activities or events, and be able to adapt your approach to different audiences. You will also have an understanding of countryside access, responsible recreation and the importance of protecting the natural environment. You will also have practical experience delivering infrastructure repairs, e.g. Installation of gates, fences and signage.
You will be organised, proactive and able to manage your own workload, identify priorities and work effectively with colleagues and partners. You will be confident working outdoors, observing and reporting issues on rights of way and access land, and helping visitors enjoy the National Park safely and responsibly.
A full UK driving licence, and the ability to travel across your designated area are essential for this role. (An Authority vehicle will be available to you to use).
An Enhanced DBS check will be required for the successful candidate due to safeguarding responsibilities.
