Conservation & WildlifeEcology

We're looking for an Assistant Land Use & Nature Delivery Partner to help drive transformational change for nature across the North of England.

Bringing specialist expertise in land management and a strong understanding of ecology, you'll help restore nature at scale across a diverse range of habitats. Working closely with colleagues, farmers and partner organisations, you'll support the delivery of ambitious nature recovery projects and play a key role in establishing monitoring and evidence frameworks, including habitat baselining, opportunity mapping and carbon auditing.

What it's like to work here

The North is home to some of the country's most important landscapes, habitats and species. From uplands and moorlands to farmland, wetlands and woodlands, you'll be working in places that offer some of the greatest opportunities for landscape-scale nature recovery in England.

You'll join the Restore Nature Specialist Delivery team in the Northwest at an exciting time as we deliver our People and Nature Thriving strategy, which aims to create 250,000 hectares of nature-rich habitat across and beyond National Trust land.

Important information

As a member of the Restore Nature Team you will be based in the Northwest, but you may need to work across the wider North region depending on project needs and partnerships.

You should currently be based in the Northwest area (Cumbria, Lancashire, Cheshire, Greater Manchester) or be prepared to relocate to within this area.

Specific contractual location and flexible working arrangements can be discussed at interview.

Our hybrid working policy means you can balance office and home working with site visits and meetings at other National Trust places.
We’ll talk about this in more detail at interview, but you should expect to be at a National Trust site for 40–60% of your working week.

Although we encourage the use of public transport this job can involve driving to remote locations and so a full UK driving licence is required.

What you'll be doing

Working alongside Land Use & Nature Delivery Partners and other team members, you'll provide specialist advice and support to help restore nature at scale. You'll work with operational teams, farmers and external partners to develop and deliver practical solutions that support nature-friendly farming, low-carbon land management and habitat creation and restoration.

Key work areas will include:

  • Support the planning and delivery of landscape-scale nature recovery projects.
  • Provide advice on land management, ecology and habitat restoration.
  • Support tenant farmers access agri-environment grant schemes.
  • Help establish and coordinate national monitoring programmes.
  • Support habitat baselining, opportunity mapping and carbon auditing.
  • Use evidence and data to inform decision-making and demonstrate impact.
  • Build strong relationships with colleagues, farmers, land managers and partner organisations to achieve shared outcomes for nature.

What we're looking for

  • Experience delivering nature recovery projects across a range of habitats and landscapes.
  • Knowledge of ecology and nature-friendly farming systems.
  • Strong communication, influencing and relationship-building skills, with the ability to inspire confidence and build trust.
  • Experience of engaging with a diverse audience from farmers and partners to colleagues across different disciplines.
  • Experience using environmental data and a good understanding of GIS and spatial mapping systems.
  • A good understanding of the UK conservation policy and environmental funding landscape.
  • The ability to translate ambitious strategic objectives into practical, high-impact delivery on the ground.
  • Full UK driving license

Closing date: Sunday 1st November 2026
