You will provide strategic advice and guidance across the organisation, to Welsh Government officials and national stakeholders. You will also lead the preparation of State of Natural Resources Reports, ensuring they are delivered within statutory timescales set by Welsh Government.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong specialist expertise who enjoys working collaboratively, providing strategic advice and leading the delivery of high-profile reporting commitments that support informed decision-making across Wales.

As an organisation we support flexible working. You will be contracted to the nearest NRW office to your home and a suitable hybrid working pattern will be agreed on appointment. Any regular face to face meetings or training will be planned in advance.

What you will do

  • Lead and project manage the preparation of the State of Natural Resources Report (SoNaRR), ensuring effective governance, project/programme planning, stakeholder engagement and delivery to the statutory timescales set by Welsh Government. Whilst ensuring SoNaRR sets out the evidence base to inform work on sustainable management of natural resources.
  • Be the organisation’s specialist expert on SoNaRR, providing advice and guidance to staff across the business.
  • Commission, lead, and manage complex work relating to SoNaRR and wider environmental reporting priorities as work planning allows, drawing on the skills of specialists and advisors across NRW, and using a matrix management approach.
  • Provide expert advice on the interpretation, synthesis and application of environmental evidence from a range of disciplines, ensuring that evidence used within SoNaRR and other environmental reporting outputs is robust, transparent and fit for purpose.
  • Engage with and influence senior representatives from a range of stakeholders working on natural resources reporting-related work at Wales, UK and European levels, taking a collaborative approach to ensure that organisations and individuals with the knowledge and expertise to inform SoNaRR are able to contribute fully.
  • Contribute specialist expertise to the development and delivery of NRW’s wider environmental reporting programme as agreed through work planning discussions.
  • Participate in, and chair as appropriate, groups established to ensure the effective governance of SoNaRR within NRW.
  • Provide specialist oversight of SoNaRR project delivery by SoNaRR project staff within the Environmental Reporting Team, ensuring the appropriate use of evidence and consistency of approach.
  • Undertake health and safety duties and responsibilities appropriate to the post
  • Be committed to Natural Resources Wales Equal Opportunities and Diversity Policy, together with an understanding of how it operates within the responsibilities of the post.
  • Be committed to your own development through the effective use of your personal development plan (known as Sgwrs).
