FWAG SW is seeking an experienced and knowledgeable Senior Farm Environment Adviser to join our Exmoor team, which forms part of our Somerset team.

A key aspect of the role will be delivering high-quality environmental advice to land managers and assisting businesses to enter and manage agri-environmental schemes, supporting their environmental ambition and business aims. These include the Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) and Countryside Stewardship Higher Tier, Capital Grants, Woodland Management Plans, and other legacy agreements such as Higher Level Stewardship (HLS). As HLS expire on Exmoor over the next few years, there are opportunities to review environmental management and ambitions that fit within the farming business and vision, undertake priority habitat surveys, and create bespoke management and capital plans and recommendations. You would advise farmers and survey a range of priority habitats, including grasslands, and provide recommendations for long term management, creation and restoration, whilst considering feasibility, site constraints, establishment and maintenance requirements, consents and the wider farming system.

You will be supported, and work with, other experienced Advisers, Regional Specialists and Team Leaders across the county.

Furthermore, our main Exmoor project is Headwaters of the Exe, part of SouthWest Water’s Upstream Thinking Programme. This is a holistic catchment management approach, aiming to improve water quality and reduce flood risk and erosion, while delivering wider environmental benefits.

You will have our full support, training and opportunities for professional development, along with a contributory pension, life assurance, generous holiday allowance and the opportunity to work flexibly.

We welcome applications from a wide range of backgrounds within the sector and are an open and inclusive organisation seeking to improve the diversity of our workforce.
