If you're happiest talking to farmers, walking fields, discussing soil health over a brew, and helping land managers make practical changes that benefit both farm businesses and local rivers, we'd love to hear from you.

One day you could be visiting a dairy farm to discuss water quality improvements. The next, you're organising a farm walk, facilitating a discussion group, helping a landowner explore funding opportunities, or identifying opportunities for natural flood management and habitat enhancement.

We're looking for someone who understands farming and can connect with the people who make their living from the land. You might come from a farming family, have worked in agriculture, or already be advising farmers professionally. What matters most is your ability to build trust, communicate well and turn good ideas into practical action.

You'll spend most of your time working with farmers and land managers across Cheshire, while collaborating with colleagues and partners from across Greater Manchester and Merseyside as part of the wider Mersey Rivers Trust team.

You'll enjoy this role if you:

  • Love being out on farms and talking to people.
  • Understand modern farming and the realities facing farmers today.
  • Can work independently and organise your own time.
  • Enjoy bringing people together and sharing ideas.
  • Want your work to contribute to healthier rivers, thriving wildlife and resilient farm businesses.

If you've got mud on your boots, enjoy a good conversation at a farm gate, and want to help shape a healthier future for our rivers and farming communities, we'd love to hear from you.

About Mersey Rivers Trust

The Mersey Rivers Trust is a charity working in partnership with all those interested in improving our local rivers and waterways. As a member of the national Rivers Trust movement, it is the Rivers Trust for the River Mersey and its catchment. The Mersey Rivers Trust formed from the merger of the Healthy Rivers Trust and the Mersey Basin Rivers Trust. The Trust hosts 3 Catchment Partnerships under the Catchment Based Approach (CaBA) and will proactively engage with local communities, land owners, regulators and other stakeholders to help clean up the rivers in the Mersey Catchment.
