The RSPB is a true leader in nature conservation: the largest organisation of its kind in Europe, managing 212 nature reserves covering over 150,000 hectares, and growing. We protect the most special habitats and wildlife in the UK, as well as using many of our reserves as visitor destinations where people of all ages can connect with and to be inspired by nature.

Our Northern England region stretches from north of Nottingham up to the Scotland border, we have over 20 nature reserves in stunning locations as varied as the Peak District and Lake District National parks, in estuaries on both coasts, and within the post-industrial landscapes near to the region's major cities.

We have a diverse and exciting portfolio of 25+ regional projects ranging from master planning for major visitor engagement and conservation projects, creation and dynamic management of landscape scale habitats and innovative building renovations to transform site operations.

About the role

As someone sharing our commitment to high quality project management, you'll bring innovative professional thinking to lead our project teams. You will be project managing a number of complex and varied major projects across the region at different stages of the project life cycle. You will be leading remote and diverse project teams, working with internal and external specialists, key industry and community stakeholders and major partners to provide a first class service for the successful delivery of the projects in some of the UK's most beautiful landscapes.

You will have a key role to play in developing and delivering major habitat conservation projects. You will be delivering key habitat conservation projects in the north west by building positive relationships with strategic partners, funders and active and passionate communities. You will be responsible for high risk and high value projects requiring a wealth of ecological planning experience and financial management of budgets over £500k+.

You will have a passion for Project Management and want to help others learn these skills. You will lead, train and develop the RSPB's project management framework implementation within the region.

About you

You'll be a confident and natural leader with a passion for people and wildlife, who thrives on a challenge and a changing environment, inspiring your team and other partners to go the extra mile for your project. A highly skilled project manager, you'll have an impressive track-record in getting things done, to be able to identify and realise new opportunities and be comfortable in making decisions. You will be an excellent communicator and skilled in organising yourself and others in a fast paced and busy working environment.

You will have a proven track record of delivering habitat conservation projects from concept to delivery.

You will have a drive to ensure that a quality project is delivered in a safe and cost effective way and ideally have experience in ecological planning and protected species requirements, including environmental impact assessment and Habitats Regulation Assessments. You will enjoy working in the outdoors and have a passion for the conservation sector.
