How do we create the financial system of tomorrow; a system that drives an inclusive economy and operates within the boundaries of a finite planet? This question lies at the heart of finance sector business leadership to bring about sustainable development. We are looking for a highly motivated individual with the passion to play a key project management and analytical support role for our work in this area with finance sector leaders and finance sector policy makers.

The University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL) builds strategic leadership capacity to tackle global challenges in pursuit of a sustainable world. We do this by catalysing leadership through our business platforms and world-class educational programmes, both informed by research from the University of Cambridge and elsewhere.

CISL has a strong focus on the finance sector. Our Finance Sector Platforms team works with groups of leading firms in the global investment, banking and insurance industries (through the Investment Leaders Group, Banking Environment Initiative and ClimateWise group respectively) on challenges such as long-term value creation, financing sustainable food supply chains and the role of regulation in supporting resilience to sustainability risks.

The successful candidate for this role will be involved in managing a range of projects across the platforms, with a focus on banking and investment sectors. Applicants should be committed to the values that underpin CISL's work and will be expected to demonstrate the following essential skills and experience:

  • Project management, including financial planning and delivering work to high quality within project budgets, such that you can deliver the most efficient development and execution of complex projects to a consistent standard of excellence
  • Ability to develop high levels of trust and credibility in relationships with senior stakeholders from both finance sector and academic backgrounds
  • Ability to work within a small partially virtual team, often under time pressure, using own initiative to manage competing priorities and to manage others in that context
  • Demonstrable interest in working with finance sector companies in particular, but also academics, policy makers and others to help drive a leadership response to sustainability challenges
  • Capability to perform research and analysis of specific challenges the finance sector faces on sustainability and present clear and simple summaries of your findings
  • Strong written communication skills, in particular enabling you to deliver a logical narrative for a range of audiences
  • Ability to communicate orally in a clear, concise and persuasive manner to a range of audiences
  • Experience of managing events across a range of formats (e.g. conferences, workshops, roundtable meetings)
  • Educated to at least degree level (or equivalent)

This post is offered on a full-time, permanent basis in what is an important growth area for CISL. Informal enquiries may be made to Judith Collier (
