BBOWT has a vision for “more nature everywhere, for everyone”. We’re working hard to create an inclusive culture, where everyone feels they belong. This includes you being comfortable bringing your whole self to work, and us co-working with the diverse communities we serve to ensure we are meeting everyone’s needs.
Volunteer Nature Reserves Trainees help nature recover by helping our Land Management team keep our reserves in great condition for Wildlife, all the while developing skills to be used in their future careers.
Working across the nature reserves of South Buckinghamshire, you’ll be helping us manage our land with tools, volunteers and livestock as well as learning how and why land management is carried out.
What you’ll be doing:
- Helping the Land Management team undertake reserves work.
- Working alongside and leading our volunteer teams.
- Handling and working with our livestock.
- Developing your knowledge and skills of practical work on nature reserves.
- Leading your own development and motivating yourself to make the most of your time with us.
What we’re looking for:
- A keen interest in land management techniques for nature
- Self-motivation and the ability to drive your own learning
- An ability to deliver and follow instructions to a high standard
- The ability to work with groups of volunteers
- A full driving license
As part of the traineeship, travel expenses may be claimed provided the candidate has a
business insurance policy for their vehicle.
The closing time and date for applications is 11.59pm on Sunday 11th May 2025.
Interviews will take place on Wednesday 21st May 2025 at College Lake nature reserve.
BBOWT values diversity and inclusion and the benefits this brings. We want every candidate to have the best chance of success as part of this process. In order to do this, we know that some candidates will need reasonable adjustments. Adjustments could include us providing the questions in an alternative format, providing extra time for assessments. We are also very happy to make adjustments for interview, which could include aspects such as lighting, physical access or simply making us aware when you arrive where it would be best for you to sit.
Contact Emma Routledge [email protected] if there are any reasonable adjustments we can provide during the selection stages, including completing your application form.
When applying for the role you can expect to answer a few questions online relating to the skills required and what you would be doing in the role. Your responses will be anonymised, randomised and scored by a panel of reviewers.
You’ll also be asked for information about your background, anything you feel comfortable sharing will be anonymised and will not be shared as part of the selection process, it will only be used to help us understand how we are performing against our equal opportunities metrics. All candidates will receive feedback on their application.

We are committed to creating an organisation that recognises and truly values individual differences and identities.
