Who we are and why we exist

Climate Ed is an educational charity which teaches Year 5 and 6 children about climate change and inspires them to act. We are unique in delivering our programme through our trained volunteer network and offering it free to schools. Our 2030 goal is to make high quality climate education available to every primary-aged child in the UK.

Climate Ed started in London in 2020 and is now entering a phase of rapid growth, expanding to new cities across the UK. We currently reach over 5,000 primary-aged children per year but have plans to increase this substantially over the coming three years and to be at the cutting edge of climate education, an exciting and rapidly evolving field.

The opportunity we’re offering

Climate Ed is looking to recruit two new Trustees to join the Board.

🔹 Trustee – Fundraising and Development

We seek a trustee with strong fundraising expertise to support our growth. The ideal candidate will bring:

  • Proven fundraising experience across multiple income streams
  • Strong networks, especially among potential major donors
  • Insight into digital fundraising
  • Ability to provide strategic guidance and open doors to new supporters

🔹 Trustee – Education and Volunteer Strategy

We seek a trustee with expertise in scaling curriculum-based programmes and volunteer-led initiatives. The ideal candidate will bring:

  • Strong understanding of the UK education system
  • Experience in curriculum development, teacher training, or resource design
  • Knowledge of volunteer engagement, recruitment, and retention
  • Strategic insight into teacher-led vs volunteer-led delivery models
  • A commitment to equity, inclusion, and empowering young people

This trustee will guide Climate Ed as we align our programme with the new school curriculum, grow our volunteer base, and develop a teacher climate education resource.

We particularly welcome minority ethnic applicants and applicants under the age of 35 since we aspire that the trustee board reflects the diversity of communities that the charity serves.

About the role

Trustees contribute to the strategic decisions the charity makes and are jointly responsible for its administration. This is an opportunity to contribute to an exciting and innovative organisation which is making a real difference to children and their futures. You will be part of a dedicated and fun team of people who are working hard to educate young people on the climate issue.

More information about being a Trustee is available here.

Trustees are unpaid and are expected to attend approximately six Board meetings a year (evenings, online) as well as participating in subcommittee meetings where applicable.

  • Ensure that Climate Ed complies with its governing document, charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations.
  • Ensure that Climate Ed pursues its objects as defined in its governing document
  • Ensure Climate Ed uses its resources exclusively in pursuance of its objects: the charity must not spend money on activities which are not included in its own objects, no matter how worthwhile or charitable those activities are.
  • Contribute actively to the Board in giving firm strategic direction to Climate Ed, setting overall policy, defining goals and setting targets and evaluating performance against agreed targets.
  • Safeguard the good name and values of Climate Ed.
  • Ensure the effective and efficient administration of Climate Ed.
  • Ensure the financial stability of Climate Ed.
  • Appoint the senior staff member(s) and monitor their performance.

Other duties

In addition to the above statutory duties, each Trustee should use any specific skills, knowledge or experience they have to help the Board reach sound decisions. This may involve:

  • Scrutinising Board papers

  • Focusing on key issues
  • Providing guidance on new or existing initiatives
  • Other issues in which the trustee has special expertise
