Volunteer Assistant Warden
The Landmark Trust / The Lundy Company
Role Description
Dates of role: 2nd June- 6th August
The volunteer assistant warden position is varied, including a mixture of survey work and public engagement. Survey work will include butterfly and bee transects and seal disturbance surveys whilst engagement work will involve assisting with Snorkel Safaris and Rockpool Rambles and running a seabird engagement station at Jenny’s Cove. Occasionally help may be required with other conservation activities such as surveying plants and assisting with bird ringing. In house training will be provided, but familiarity with UK rockpool species and butterfly identification will be advantageous. Becoming an integral part of the small island community is a unique aspect of the role and often demands a need for ‘all hands-on deck’. Successful candidates will also be expected to muck in with other duties where required. General island duties include housekeeping and sorting recycling.
Essential: Willingness to work independently for extended periods on exposed coastal slopes and paths. Willingness to take on a variety of tasks on a flexible timetable schedule. Experience conducting wildlife surveys.
Desirable: Exceptional candidates may have previous marine mammal survey experience, good UK marine life knowledge, butterfly and bee identification skills and experience snorkelling.
