Grow Wilder is Avon Wildlife Trust’s unique urban growing hub, learning centre and wildflower nursery for Bristol. In our 6 acres site we work with organisations and community groups to maintain a wildlife friendly space to give people of all ages and backgrounds opportunities to connect with nature. Together we engage a diverse audience through food growing, nature regeneration and conservation courses, wellbeing and crafts activities with which we deliver positive social impact.

We are looking for 3 passionate and committed individuals keen to volunteer to assist in the delivery of the land management programme over the 2026 growing season, with food growing and habitat management tasks, coordinating volunteer groups, ensuring volunteers are kept safe and supported in their role. You will volunteer closely with Grow Wilder’s Land Management Officer.

Tasks may include any or all of the following:

  • Tool safety demonstration to volunteer groups
  • Positive and informative engagement with the public
  • Delegation and demonstration of tasks - working with volunteer groups to complete daily, weekly, monthly and seasonal tasks
  • Production of salad and vegetables for sale
  • Development of produce markets; on site and through Bristol wholesale outlets
  • Growing and maintenance of the Market Garden and polytunnel growing environments
  • Maintenance of the composting systems on site
  • Volunteering in the Market Garden, Forest Garden, polytunnels and other food production borders of the site
  • Volunteering across the site in the Wildlife habitat zones, living seed banks, marginal perimeter habitats, hedgerows, water and ponds ecosystems.

Grow Leader course

In exchange for the commitment to this role, you will be given a free place on the Autumn 2026 course. The Grow Leader course runs for 19 weeks from 7th August to 11th December. March to August volunteering will be Wednesdays & Fridays. When the course starts in August your volunteering hours will drop to just Wednesdays as you will be attending the course on Fridays.

Specific and in-depth training will be given to the Volunteer Coordinator as part of the personal development for their role and this will include the H&S Induction Training for volunteers.
