Portishead Local Group Volunteer - Secretary
Avon Wildlife Trust
Our Local Groups play a vital role in helping Avon Wildlife Trust spread the message about protecting nature. We run regular monthly talks for the local community, welcoming inspiring speakers from across the country to share their knowledge and passion for the environment.
Are you interested in the environment? Do you want to learn more? Do you want to get to know people in the sector?
Then please get involved in one of our Portishead Local Groups and assist in helping Avon Wildlife Trust spread the message. Our Local Groups put on regular talks for communities organising speakers from throughout the country to talk about the environment.
Within this role, you will be arranging and organising speakers for monthly talks, designing and completing admin for the programme, contacting speakers before talks to remind them and arranging payment for speakers.
What you will be doing
- Attending meetings with the local group.
- Greeting speakers and help set up equipment.
- Scheduling: Setting dates, times, and venues for committee meetings.
- Agenda Preparation: Liaising with the Chairperson to create and circulate agendas and supporting documents in advance.
- Minute Taking: Recording accurate notes during meetings, focusing on decisions made and actions to be taken.
- Distribution: Circulating minutes to members promptly after the meeting.
- Point of Contact: Acting as the primary contact person for the group, receiving and responding to emails, letters, and phone calls.
- Information Distribution: Circulating information, newsletters, or announcements
This is a great opportunity to build organisational skills, gain insight into the environmental sector, and be part of a friendly, like-minded team making a real difference for wildlife.
Talks and committee meetings are once a month from September to May. Talks are held on a Friday evening and committee meetings are on a Wednesday.
No prior experience is required - just enthusiasm, reliability, and an interest in nature.
