Women’s Fund for Nature is an exciting new initiative that invites women to come together, pool their resources, and support youth-led responses to the crises facing nature, the climate, and the environment in the UK. We challenge the notion that real change is beyond our control and that philanthropy is only for the very wealthy.

We are looking for a volunteer Growth and Engagement Lead to work closely with our Founder to support the successful launch and growth of the Fund. If you’re inspired by the idea of building something from scratch, turning an idea into something tangible, and curious about the potential of pooled giving as a conduit for transformational change, then we’d love to hear from you.

Role Description

Stewarding the Membership Experience

Play a vital role in helping the Fund to reach new audiences, grow its membership base, and create an inspiring experience for its members:

  • Work closely with the Founder and Trustees to explore ways to reach prospective members through social media, affinity groups, events, and traditional media.
  • Support the Founder in the design of the membership experience; establishing ways to keep the members engaged with the Fund and the member community.
  • Manage the day-to-day implementation of the membership experience, organising monthly community calls, setting up WhatsApp and slack groups for members, and responding to queries.
  • Help the Founder to design and launch a program of volunteer opportunities for the members such as establishing grant review panels and grantee mentorship.
  • Work closely with the Founder and Trustees to identify guest speakers and create a speaker series.

Increasing the Fund’s Visibility

Help to raise the visibility of the Fund at this critical stage of growth, ensuring that its external-facing messaging and tools are professional and informative, while exploring potential media interest:

  • Help the Founder, Trustees and Volunteers with the Fund’s social media activity including, determining how to best reach prospective members and other audiences, assisting in content creation, reposting, and tagging, and expanding our networks.
  • Continue to build and maintain our website using the Squarespace platform so that it is clear, visually engaging, and functional.
  • Research affinity groups that the Fund should connect while helping to engage with prospective members.
  • Explore potential media interest in the Fund, reaching out to journalists and influencers to pitch the Fund’s model, progress and impact.

Supporting the day-to-day Operations of the Fund

Help to set up new systems, and establish the infrastructure that ensures the efficient functioning of the Fund’s financial and administrative mechanisms:

  • Work alongside the Founder, coming up with, testing, and establishing new systems and strategies.
  • Provide support to the Volunteer Finance Manager and Founder in keeping accurate records and storing membership data in compliance with GDPR.
  • Support the Founder in gathering the latest data on membership in preparation for Trustee meetings (both virtual and in person).
  • Manage the relationship with JustGiving, through which the Fund will receive its membership fees, one-off donations, and Gift Aid.

Person Specification

Our ideal candidate is someone who can be adaptable and willing to apply their skills and interests to a variety of tasks within the organisation - typical in small organisations like this. Specifically, we are looking for someone who is:

  • Keenly interested in climate and nature issues and supportive of our mission and values and invested in the idea that anyone can be a philanthropist!
  • Excited by the idea of helping a brand-new organisation get off the ground. Many of the tasks you will be responsible for will be identified by you. We’re looking for someone creative and forward thinking who’s willing to test out ideas and be a vocal advocate for the organisation.
  • Comfortable working across a variety of functions; strategy, communications, finance, and operations. We’re looking for someone who is as happy to take on some administrative tasks as they are to pursue new ideas and ways of working.
  • Adept at organising; setting up new systems, and comfortable with managing personal data.
  • Comfortable with technology including website design, virtual meeting software, and social media platforms.
  • An excellent communicator who’s happy to talk to new audiences, communicate with groups and get to know people on an individual basis.
  • Comfortable working remotely and independently.
  • Able to devote at least 1 day/week (or equivalent) to this role over the coming year.

What Women’s Fund for Nature can offer you

This is a volunteer position (i.e. unpaid, but we are committed to finding funding sources to help pay for this and other positions within the organisation.) In the meantime, we are committed to providing you with a positive and enriching experience whilst working with us. We will provide you with:

  • A comprehensive induction to Women’s Fund for Nature and your role.
  • Reimbursement for all reasonable expenses you incur whilst volunteering, including travel to and from any in-person meetings you attend.
  • Flexible working conditions (c.1 day/week) that can fit around your other commitments. You decide when and where to work.
  • The opportunity to be involved in building and shaping a new charity from the ground up! This comes with many chances for professional development and networking in the climate and philanthropy spaces.

Please also note that this role is not just open to women! The Fund’s members are women, but its grantees, advisors, and staff need not be. Like to know more? Please contact [email protected]
