Communications Coordinator
Natural Neighbours
About us:
We are Natural Neighbours, a small London-based charity working with inner-city communities to create vibrant, nature-friendly neighbourhoods where wildlife flourishes alongside people.
We build "Natural Neighbourhoods" by creating habitat hotspots in schools, housing estates, and community spaces. We empower local residents through our "Natural Champions" programme to lead the recovery of urban nature.
We are at an exciting tipping point. Having proven our model at three sites in Hackney, we are now preparing to scale.
The Role:
Great work is happening on the ground. Your job is to make sure the wider world knows about it.
Your role will be to coordinate our storytelling efforts to ensure a reliable flow of high-quality communications across our channels. Your role will be behind the scenes but vital; you will be the person with the overview of the flow of storytelling materials, playing a key role in ensuring regular comms and therefore growing impact with our key audiences.
We are already present on LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube and Facebook; we want to strengthen our consistency on all these platforms as well as our on-the-ground communications with residents in Hackney.
You will be working as part of the Storytellers working group alongside our Founder and relevant Trustee(s) who will provide an overview of our existing communication and marketing materials, as well as our storytelling strategy, brand guidelines and nascent brand research/user personas.
What You'll Do:
- Manage a content calendar across our Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, and YouTube, bringing greater consistency to our presence on all platforms.
- Produce fresh, engaging content that brings our community stories, habitat transformations and Natural Champions program to life.
- Design simple, on-brand graphics using free tools like Canva.
- Run a targeted campaign around our Hackney pilot sites, and contribute to broader conversations in urban nature, biodiversity, and nature-derived health and wellbeing.
- Engage actively with our followers — responding, connecting, and growing our community online
What We're Looking For:
You're someone who can turn a muddy boots site visit into a compelling Instagram post, and a funding milestone into a LinkedIn story worth sharing. You'll bring:
- Skill writing and editing content for our website, Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, and YouTube.
- The ability to build strategies that grow our following and support crowdfunding and awareness campaigns.
- Confidence managing a storytelling calendar to bring consistency to our communications.
- Comfort with tools such as Canva, Hootsuite, Sprout Social, and a willingness to pick up new platforms quickly.
Just as important as your skills is:
- Accuracy and attention to detail.
- The ability to quickly understand the needs of our team, organisation, and audiences.
- Confidence asking the right questions to clarify what we need.
- An appreciation of the resource realities of a small charity, and a willingness to work creatively within them.
- An open, constructive approach to giving and receiving feedback.
What difference will you make?
Your input will shape how our local residents, partners, funders and the wider public see Natural Neighbours.
With your support, we'll grow our work, strengthen our case for funding, deepen our community relationships, and add our voice to a growing public conversation about what towns and cities can do for nature, and what nature can do for people.
About Natural Neighbours
Natural Neighbours has a positive, forward-looking vision of towns, cities and neighbourhoods where wildlife flourishes alongside people.
We recognise the basic human need to connect: with each other, with nature, and with ourselves.
Research shows local activities that nurture wildlife help to build a valuable sense of community connection and wellbeing. Additionally, areas such as balconies, patios and window boxes have potential to bring the health-giving benefits of nature to neighbourhoods.
Natural Neighbours is fusing these two concepts by bringing people together to nurture wildlife, using even the smallest of spaces to help nature thrive.
