CPRE Avon and Bristol seeks new Trustees to join its dynamic Board to lead its work to enhance and protect our local countryside.

Location: Bristol/Surrounding Area

Salary: Voluntary / Unremunerated / Expenses Paid

Time Commitment: Attendance at Quarterly meetings

We are an independent charity that exists to protect the countryside around Bristol, Bath and the surrounding rural areas of North Somerset and South Gloucestershire. It sits within the highly respected network of CPRE charities that operate in almost every English County, headed by the influential National Charity HQ in London.

We work with our members, local communities and volunteers to protect our countryside from unsustainable development and practices. We believe housing and industrial development should be on ‘brownfield’ land first (land that has previously been developed) before taking up green fields needed for farming, wildlife and our own health and wellbeing. We run projects that connect people from diverse groups to their local countryside, and we undertake practical conservation work through our ‘Hedgerow Heroes’ project.

As a new Trustee at CPRE Avon and Bristol you will contribute to the success of this work by guiding the Charity in carrying out its strategic aims and be able to influence future projects undertaken. For instance, for the last five years we have run the ‘Hedgerow Heroes’ project, passing on traditional hedgelaying skills to many communities as well as planting new hedgerows to aid biodiversity in this area. We aim to continue this project but ideally seek longer term funding to secure its future. You may have ideas on how this can be achieved.

It is a broad and varied role, requiring a pro-active approach, identifying where resources can best be generated and responding to new challenges as they occur. It could suit a wide range of candidates from different backgrounds who have a passion for countryside matters and who possess the right skills. By volunteering as a Trustee and applying your specific experience, you can make a real difference and be a central part of a friendly group committed to ensuring our countryside thrives for future generations.

We are particularly interested in hearing from those with experience in one of more of the following areas:

• Fund-raising within the Charity sector
• Local planning and Engagement with Local Councils on key issues such as housing development, solar farms and climate resilience
• Involvement in diversity-led projects
• Organisational management experience

Working closely with the Chair and fellow Trustees, the role of Trustee will play a vital part in guiding CPRE Avon and Bristol’s future direction to ensure strong governance and compliance with regulations, bold leadership and to make a lasting impact.
